The Bible

Yes I am still in Numbers 14..  I will move on at some point I am sure but til then, I found more nuggets!!

Here is the passage:

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces in the presence of all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel. 6 Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; 7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, “The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the Lord is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us—a land which flows with milk and honey. 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they will be our [c]prey. Their[d]protection has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”10 But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Then the glory of the Lord appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Israel.

Do you see that last part?  The part where the congregation was going to stone them??  What happened??  THE GLORY OF THE LORD APPEARED TO ALL THE SONS OF ISRAEL!!!

The Lord protected the 4 men..  the whole congregation saw the glory of the Lord!!  I saw that and thought, wait.. This is a people who has regularly saw the Glory..

Why would they not believe Joshua and Caleb? They forgot in that moment.  They fell into the pit and couldn’t see anything but this current circumstance.  They couldn’t remember what God had done for them and how the last few times they had a problem God solved it.  All they saw was a problem.  They were going to kill the people who had faithfully let them, who had kindly helped them.  God stepped in. They couldn’t help but see God now.   Now they were afraid.  But this is the kind of afraid when you know your in trouble and you don’t know what the authority figure is going to do here.  You have really screwed up this time and you know the punishment is going to be big. Remember those times??

You messed up and got called to the principles office.  You did something really stupid and now your parents have found out and they are mad.  You know your parents and the principle want the best for you so you know there will be punishment.  It will be painful but just.

That is what they are facing right now.  God is so mad he wants to kill them all!!  All but the 4.

Look at what happens next:

1 The Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people spurn Me? And how long will they not believe in Me, despite all the signs which I have performed in their midst? 12 I will smite them with [e]pestilence and dispossess them, and I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they.”

13 But Moses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for by Your strength You brought up this people from their midst, 14 and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, O Lord, are in the midst of this people, for You, O Lord, are seen eye to eye, while Your cloud stands over them; and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. 15 Now if You slay this people as one man, then the nations who have heard of Your fame will [f]say, 16 ‘Because the Lord could not bring this people into the land which He promised them by oath, therefore He slaughtered them in the wilderness.’ 17 But now, I pray, let the power of the Lord be great, just as You have[g]declared, 18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children [h]to the third and the fourth generations.’ 19 Pardon, I pray, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness, just as You also have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

The Lord Pardons and Rebukes

20 So the Lord said, “I have pardoned them according to your word; 21 but indeed, as I live,[i]all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord.

God was so mad at this people that He wanted to wipe them out.  He was done with this  people who He had chosen to love and teach and bless.  But refused to believe.  They refused to love Him back.  Out of all this group of people there were only the 4 who believed God and trusted Him.

Moses interceded for this group of people.  Did you also see that part?  God was done, he wanted to wipe them out He was so mad at them.  But Moses interceded.  He said wait a minute God.. Do you want a bad reputation here in this land?  The people around this people, the people other than this people, the people who are not this people, believe YOU are with this people and they are afraid.  Not this people you are with. Not the Israelites who have been with God, who have seen God, who have experienced amazing things with God.  BUT the people around them!!  They will see that this people has been wiped out and they will not believe in You.

Moses stood up to God and said wait a minute, You really shouldn’t wipe them out.  Will You, in your amazing Lovingkindness, forgive this people yet again??  Moses reminded God of some things.  Moses came before God boldly and said,” Remember God??”  When you made that big mistake and had to face some severe punishment, don’t you wish you had a Moses that interceded for you??   I sure do.

Because of Moses, the people were spared.  Yes, the 10 faced punishment for stirring up trouble in the camp.  They died there of a plague that the Lord sent on them.  The rest were forced to live for 40 years wandering the desert until that generation died out and the younger generation who lived with the Lord’s presence all that time, could trust Him enough to take the land.  All but Joshua and Caleb.  They were to live to see the land and take the land.

Have you been given promises or dreams?  Do you have them yet?  Why not?  What is holding you back?

Think about what that promise or dream is or was.  Can you even remember what it was?  If you can’t, ask God to remind you of that dream.  Don’t let fear rule you here.  Be bold.  Ask God and believe what He shows you.  If you ask Him for bread He will not give you a stone!!  Ask Him.  Then believe what He shows you.  Write it down, draw it out.  Do whatever you need to, to keep that dream in front of you.

A side note:  a few years ago, I read a book called, “The Dreamgiver”.   It was a good book about believing that you can indeed have dreams and that you can indeed go for them.  I was so mad at that book and that author that I threw the book across the room in anger!!!  I was not seeing any way at all that I could have a dream much less go for it.  I was in the midst of little ones who wouldn’t sleep all night or who were sick all winter.  I was overwhelmed with living day to day.  There was no way I could see  of living out my dreams.

Guess what…  There may not have been then, but those seasons pass away.  Keep going.  Dream the dreams..  It is ok..  Each thing that you go through helps you get to the next season.  It helps you get stronger to go into the next facet of your beautiful life.  Yes life may really suck right now.  I totally understand that!  Life does indeed suck sometimes.  But that is all part of making you who you are.

I certainly could not see that then, when I read that book.

I want to encourage you in this:  Look for the promises, That is your Promised land.  Yes there are probably giants there.  Yes it will not be easy to take the land.  Has the rest of your life been easy?  No?  So what are you worried about?  Its either gonna be hard to live the way you are or hard to move into your dreams?  Which do you want more?

Be like Moses who boldly came before God and interceded for his people!  He CHANGED GOD’S MIND!!

When you step out in boldness, its gonna be hard.  Its gonna be a challenge.  But change your mind. Look for the good in wherever you are.  Change your thoughts from “I can’t” to “I can”.   Become a friend of God’s and pray.  Ask Him to help you in whatever you need help with.  Especially if you are in the midst of the day to day struggles of just getting through!!!

Trust me.  He will.

Blessing of boldness into your life!!
