Camping stories

I just want to post a blog!!

The computer I was using is possessed!!!!  I am sure of it!  I could be typing along and suddenly for no apparent reason, it is all gone!!  The font may go really big or really small!!

Ok– So I was thinking it would be a fun post to put something about  camping stories…

I am not sure.

I don’t know if I want to think about camping.

It gives me shivers.

Camping was always an adventure that is for sure.  I quit camping for several reasons.  The biggest one was that I was tired of being stuck in a pop up camper with little ones who are freaking out because of the huge scary storm going on outside!!  That happened a few too many times.

I don’t like storms when I am under huge trees and the winds are blowing, lightening is cracking the sky and rain is pouring, in a flimsy pop up camper!  I like storms when I am in my house.  Or can get into my house if it gets too ugly.

We went camping a lot.  It was cheap.  We could afford it.

We love cooking on the campfire.  S’mores are sooooooo yummy!!

I have been known to make more trips to the store for S’mores ingredients than for milk on camping trips!

One time we were all set to go camping.  Camper was loaded.  Bikes carefully placed on the carrier on the top of the camper.  Including the oldest’s brand new, bought by himself, with his own money earned from the jobs he had, bike.   In the center of the carrier surrounded by at least 4 other bikes.

We got ready for bed and finished packing some last minute things and then I asked the hubby if we had any money to use for camping.   Well let’s just say, we were in a season of no extra.

So. I prayed.

Do you know God likes to teach us lessons?

I do now!!!  I prayed wrongly.  I didn’t believe that God would provide.  I prayed out of fear and lack rather than out of faith and abundance.

We woke up and got ready to leave and well….   The oldest’s bike was gone!!  He was devastated!!  The bungies used to hold them together and on the carrier were all neatly on the camper.  All the other bikes were still there.  His bike from the middle of the pile was gone.

We filed a report and called around to the neighbors.  No one had seen anything.  We sadly packed up and left on our trip.  We didn’t really know where we were gonna go to.

This was my trip to plan.

Did I tell you I was a free-spirit?  We don’t plan.

The hubby does not understand that kind of thinking.

We had a good time for the most part.  The bike kind of clouded our time away.   We prayed for a way to get a new bike.

Then we had heavy rain every night and one HUGE storm that scared some of us!

I was in the camper in the storm for hours playing Uno with 6 kids under the age of 12.  It leaked.  It was not fun.  There is not a lot of room in a camper with 6 small kids.

That was the beginning of the end of camping.

Oh, and God was teaching me some things there too…  There was a Bible verse that kept jumping out at me every time I opened my Bible.  Proverbs 17:14

14 Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.

I did not like that verse.  But I needed to understand it.  There is  a lot of wisdom here in Proverbs.  I still have some work to do on this one.

Anyways, every time I opened my Bible that week, there it was.

Let’s just say, it was not an easy trip for hubby and me. But reading that verse every day helped some.

I am learning.   I tried very hard to not let my tired (because I never really sleep good in a camper),  stuck in the camper with 6 small kids, arguing with my husband, self not to start a quarrel.  Sometimes I lost the battle.  Sometimes I won.  Not with my husband, but with the desire to start a quarrel.

I still lose it some times.  But it is way better than it used to be!   By the way, after that week, I had to look for that verse.

When we got home, the neighbors had put together a collection for the oldest.  They had collected more than enough to replace the lost bike.  We never did find out what happened to it.

It was a good time for good lessons.  God is good.  He does answer prayers.    He used the neighbors to answer the prayers prayers of our kids.  They prayed every day for the oldest’s bike to be replaced.  Thanks God for answering that prayer.

We took one or two more camping trips after that.  One was when I was 8 months pregnant and it was extremely hot that summer!  I don’t sleep in a pop up camper.  I REALLY don’t sleep when I am 8 months pregnant and uncomfortable anyways, in a pop up camper.

The very last was when we were camping along a river that had 10 days prior, flooded.  We arrived just in time for the swarms of mosquitoes!!!  I mean, we could not sit outside at the campfire because the mosquitoes were so bad!!  We walked out of the camper and were immediately swarmed!  The only place we could be was on the river and it was really hot so we were on the river a lot!!

We came home early from that one.  Now that the kids are older, we have gone camping again.  I had a cabin.

Camping is much better in a hotel room!!  Or in the living room!!

We have campfires in the yard.  I am good with that!!!

Post your camping stories in the comments below, I would love to hear them!
