I have been pondering a post about work for quite a while now. The “Now Hiring” signs are everywhere and it seems that there aren’t enough people to work the jobs that are available, at least around here.
Why is that?
There are thoughts that I should maybe get a job. That has been discussed. Its not like I don’t have already enough to do, that is not it really. A little extra money would come in handy around here lately!
I am sure all of you know what I mean.
The only way to get money is to work. It doesn’t just appear. Its a nice concept but, well…. as much as I would like to have that happen, I just would not be learning the lessons I need to learn in the process, the most important one being how to manage my money.
I woke this am to a text message from a friend telling me about job openings she has.
Then later, read this verse in a blog post today along with a bit about work. I kind of giggled. Nervously. Apparently God is serious about me getting out of this house and working!
Here it is: 4 But now [d]take courage, Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord, ‘take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,’ declares the Lord, ‘and work; for I am with you,’ declares the Lord of hosts. Haggai 2:4 Courtesy of Biblegateway.com
Could God have been more blunt??!! There was more in the blog post but I am going to just focus on that part.
Tonight I had a facebook discussion with a friend about this. I love what she said: ” if you love what you are doing – living your life in His and following His word and rejoicing about His life as it touches yours…….you wont be working at the reading and the following and the shouting out about it – it wont be like work – its life – and what a wonderful life He has given us all??”
Isn’t that the way we should be living?? I mean ideally. Certainly we go through seasons where what we are doing is just work. Hard. Work.
Sometimes we just need to pay the bills and take care of the children. Even then, HE is with us. Even when its not so easy.
But besides all that, when we have a job to do, and we love it, or we find things we love about the job, it won’t be work, but rather, life. A part of our lives that we get to live with others around us and the God who is with us always. If we are lucky, we will get to share His Life with those we work with or come in contact with.
No, we don’t always love what we are doing or the people we come into contact with. But we can find things we love about the job. We can build on what we love doing and eventually, move into jobs that expand on what we love to do and that we are gifted in. It won’t seem like work then.
We can be like Him and live the Life we were meant to have and do the work we have been called to do. We are going to be here awhile. We may as well Love it!!
Lord, thank you that you are with me. Thank you that you will guide me into the job you would have me to do. I place it in Your hands. Lord, for all those who read this post, please help them in what ever it is they need in their places of work. Help all who read this find what it is that they love in their jobs. Help them find You in their places of work.
