Twas the Weeks Before Christmas…

And all through the house,

The boxes were lying, hiding the mouse.

The stockings were hung, somewhere near the chimney

In hopes that maybe that dumb Elf on the Shelf would put them up.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds.  While visions of their Mama and them making cookies and ornaments and candy all day danced in their heads.

Mamma was still cleaning up the mess and would be for the rest of the night…

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, she looked out the window to see what was the matter…

She would have flew like a flash, but she was tired from cleaning up the house,  she tore up the shades and stared out the window,

The moon on the muddy, unraked piles of leaves, gave the luster of more dirt to come into the house,

When what to my wondering eyes should appear?

A miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer….

Seriously?  I need to go to bed…..

When a little old driver, so lively so quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.  More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, and he whistled and shouted and called out my name!

Hey Vicki, Relax, Its ok.

Don’t run around like a mad woman and be crabby.  Enjoy this time!  Its gonna be over quickly so don’t worry.  There will be plenty of time for cleaning in January, (when there isn’t anything else to do).

The kids will remember the time more than you!  Your making Memories that’s true!

Eat the candy with the kids.  Make the cookies. Decorate the tree..  Its all good and fun and who cares that there are sprinkles ground into the carpet. There will be time for cleaning too. (next month when the snow is 3 feet deep and its 40 below!!)

They won’t care that the tree isn’t the perfect Pinterest worthy tree or that there are only decorations up so high and in that one spot.  They will notice their handmade ornaments are there!

They will want to share their hard work with everyone they love!  So take the time and love that hard work!  It’s ok that it doesn’t look quite like the picture!

Then, laying a finger aside of his nose, and giving a nod,  up in the sky he rose!  But I heard him exclaim as he flew off that night,

Happy Christmas to All, and now, go to bed. You need your sleep!  Its gonna be a long month if you don’t just go to bed and get some rest!  Good NIGHT!!!

I turned and looked at the rest of the mess.  I turned off the lights and went to bed….

Good Night all and Merry Christmas!!

  1. I love this! By the way, you have me beat by two kids. I have seven … four teens, 1 tween and two toddlers. We are fostering the two toddlers, wondering and hoping if the Lord will allow us to adopt them as we’ve totally fallen in love with them both. But, oh how I get the tired of cleaning and cooking bit … and yet I keep reminding myself how these days might seem so long, but the years are so very, very short. Make memories and engage while they are still home, knowing that there will be many future days for cleaning. 🙂

    1. It really stretches you sometimes to have them at such different ages, doesn’t it??!! Yet- what a joy!! I will be praying the Lord to allow you to adopt them. I know what you mean about the cleaning and the cooking!!! And sometimes I just don’t want to talk to ANY of them!! hahaahahahaa!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to read my blog!! I appreciate it..
