The Light of the World

On the way to gym & swim today, my kids talked about how Disney princesses always lose their parents, and how in those movies, when the death occurs,  it always rains and is gray.  In many movies, it rains at the funerals.

It is yet another gray day in a long series of gray days.  Over the last week it has been either gray, gray and foggy, gray with a little peek of sunshine, or gray with rain.

No wonder they talked about death.

The power has gone out briefly several times for no apparent reason.  Blackness to add to the gray.

I just feel sad.  Heavy.  Eeyore-ish..  Blah. It seems they do to.

Its 9 days til Christmas.  We should be happy and excitedly anticipating the birth of our Savior.  We should be singing Christmas carols all day long, while we bake cookies, decorate and wrap perfect presents for everyone on our list, because we have all our presents made or bought.  We should be playing in the snow that looks like a perfect Christmas card.

(for your information, I don’t have cookies baking, or even started.  And I have almost all my presents bought and made. )

Instead, I just want to curl up with a book and pretend everyone and all the gray is gone.  I want to forget all the trouble around me.   I feel confused.  Like the clear path, the light in front of my has been replaced with gray.

I know “Thy word is a lamp onto my feet and a light upon my path” but when everything is gray, or shades of gray, sometimes its hard to see the light.  It seems like everything has become a “gray area” so to speak.

I have a dear friend, whom I greatly respected, who was a good Christian man, fell into the gray it seems.  I don’t know what happened, I just know he made a serious mistake.  He couldn’t see the Light in all the gray.

It adds to the sense of sadness.  The gray.  The gloom.

I know how to get out.  He knows how to get out, and he will.

When everything is gray.  When everything is dark.  Seek the True Light of the World.    Focus on the Son who is Light.  The reason why we do celebrate this holiday in the first place.

Maybe we should take a drive and look at all the Christmas lights. (By the way, the elaborate Christmas light show in town is even closed tonight.  Must be even too gray for that!!)  Maybe it will remind us of the True Light that we should be focused on.

[ Jesus Is the Light of the World ] Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12 courtesy
