Its a New Year! And Also a Time Capsule Year

Yep- it was a time capsule year.

Our past years time capsules.
Our past years time capsules.

What is that you ask??

Well, we have put together a few time capsules over the years, the first one being in 1995.  It was scheduled to be opened in 2005.  In 2005 we created one that was scheduled to be opened in 2015.  We did that last night.

2 of the boys were the official authors of this one.

This one was water damaged and some things were hard to read. It was fun to look over what we put into that one in 2005, 10 years ago.  It brought back some memories and also reminded us to look to the future and make some needed changes for our futures.

Opening the box- Some school papers and letters to each other were inside.

This year we wrote letters to ourselves 10 years into the future.  We wrote out some hopes and dreams, told a few highlights of the year and then put them into envelopes.  We also added a page for each person and on that page we all wrote a note to that person in the future.  It was kind of a fun thing to do and we will look forward to reading that in 10 years!

I will add a family picture, probably one from the wedding, and a few other highlight trinkets from this past year.  Then I will tape it up, mark it for 2025 (!!!) and store it in a safe place until then.

This years box. Its been quite a year for us so I will collect a few other things from our year to add to this box.

Its kind of fun to think of us opening that box in 2025 and what we will see.  What will we be like?  Will our letters and notes make us smile and will our goals and dreams come true??  What will it be like 10 years down the road?  Will our world be drastically different?  How??

I guess only time will tell..

Another tradition we have been doing is a New Year’s day breakfast.

Can you see the 2 0 1 and 5?

In the morning of the first day of the new year, I have been making pancakes.  Not just any pancakes!  NEW YEAR Pancakes!!  I write out the new year number in pancake batter and add sprinkles.  It adds a little fun to the day!

Happy 2015!!
Happy 2015!!

Happy New Year everyone!!

Blessings,

  1. What a wonderful idea, but I how do you manage to wait the entire decade?! My family does a “time capsule” and predictions every year to be opened and read the next year. It is one of our favorite parts of New Year’s Eve.

    1. Its not so hard when you forget its down there and someone accidentally notices a random box in storage, way in the back!! hehee!! I thought about doing a short term one, 5 years, but our trend seems to be 10 so I just kept it at that.
