Yep, we had the flu over Christmas. yay.
One by one we all have gotten it. One had to stay home from the festivities Christmas day, a couple of the rest of us should have too. Whoops. It seemed like we were feeling better.
For us, it started the weekend before Christmas. Some had the upset stomach version. Some had the respiratory version. Some were fine in a day. Others took a full week before they were feeling better. I took the whole week.
That was not my idea of fun. I had things to do! Of course, like always, I still had presents to buy and cookies to bake. I just can’t seem to get it all done ahead of time like so many others can. I bought Oreos and called them Christmas cookies this year. I did get the rest of my shopping done, in a fog, but it was done and no one complained.
I did use the essential oils, kind of a LOT of essential oils. I don’t like being sick, especially at Christmas when we have family gatherings.
I mixed up some raw honey, hot water and added some essential oils to that. We took 2tbs of that periodically through the days. Shake up the jar really good first to mix the oils that have settled at the top.
- The oils I added were:
2-4 drops of Lemon
- 4-6 drops Peppermint
- 3 drops Cypress
- 4 or so drops of Frankincense
- 3 drops of Thyme
I put Lavender (5 drops), Eucalyptus (10 drops) and Thieves (4 drops) into the diffusers or the vaporizers and ran them in their rooms at night especially.
We used coconut oil mixed with Peace and Calming (just a drop), Eucalyptus (just a drop) and Thieves or Purification (just a drop of either), rubbed on their chests or on the bottoms of their feet.
Towards the end, when some were still not feeling very good, after a week, ok- when I was still not feeling good and some of the others were still in the midst of the virus, I mixed up a bath soak. I used baking soda and epsom salts, equal parts, and added the oils I had left at this point;
2 drops Helichrysum,
5 drops Frankincense,
5 drops Eucalyptus,
and all the Lemon oil I had left.
I put about a cup of that into the bath, let it steam up the room really good, and then soaked in the tub for about 20 min. I use the soaking in the tub, with oils, quite often when the kids are sick. It helps them just feel better.
Needless to say, 3 are still going through the flu, not the ones in my house, and I am seriously out of oils!
