Hebrews 4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
The Believer’s Rest
4 Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word [a]they heard did not profit them, because [b]it was not united by faith in those who heard. 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,
“As I swore in My wrath,
They shall not enter My rest,”although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.(courtesy Biblegateway.com)
Yep. On a Monday.
See, we need to enter into His rest in order to be able to relax and enjoy our crazy, hectic, out of control life!!
Did you notice the title of this passage? It was already on Biblegateway, I didn’t add it. “The Believer’s rest”. How about that part in verse 3 where it says: “For we who have believed entered that rest”??? Did you see it now??
If we believe in the words of Jesus, we can enter into HIS rest. We don’t have to do the works because it might get us into heaven!! We don’t have to keep striving and trying to earn our place in His kingdom. We don’t have to succumb to the crazy whims of the people around us.
We already have that rest when we choose to believe what He said!!
I found something that was interesting to me as we did the Exodus Study for school a couple of weeks ago, the people COULD have entered into the Promised land, and therefore, into His rest, but they chose to be disobedient. They chose to follow the critical people. The ones who gave a bad report and caused all the people to grumble and complain. The ones who wanted things their way and were afraid of change. The ones who died for their disobedience, and still the people wouldn’t listen.
It says here in Hebrews that they couldn’t enter into that promise because He was mad at them for their continued disobedience! OUCH!
Its much easier to just be obedient to His word and be able to enter into His promises for your life. His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
He says; Do not worry about tomorrow. Today has enough worries.
He says; Cease striving and know that I am God.
He says: Be the peace in the midst of the storm.
He says; I love you. I am truth. I am with you. You are My Beloved.
Look in His word today for a promise you can grab a hold of for your week and enter into His rest. The psalms is a great place to start if you are not sure where to go.
Let me know what your promise is in the comments. I would love for you to have an amazing week because you chose to believe the promise He gave you today!
