Come into Your Father’s House and hang out awhile.
I have been pondering these questions for a while now:
What have we been teaching others about Jesus?
Have we been teaching them about the love or the laws?
How are we leading others to Jesus? Because of laws or love?
Have we come to Jesus because of laws and rules or love?
I believe He wants us to come to Him because of Love. I read John 15 today and it talks about abiding in Him and His love. I love the chapter! It’s a “Love” chapter and it’s one of my favorite chapters. There are so many reminders for us about how much He loves us! He wants us to abide in His love doesn’t He?? That’s what it says.
9-10 “I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands, you’ll remain intimately at home in my love. That’s what I’ve done—kept my Father’s commands and made myself at home in his love.” The Message version John 15:9-10.
Make yourself at home in His love. What an awesome picture. It’s not rules based. Its love based. Think about being comfortable in your parent’s home or in your own home. You feel at home and comfortable, you should feel loved, maybe you have your comfy clothes on and are curled up in the comfy chair.
This is how God wants you to feel all the time with Him. Comfortable and loved.
Many times we make Christianity all about following the rules and regulations. Wear this, not that. Eat this not that. Observe this rule. Follow this person. Don’t go there stay away from whatever.
Jesus didn’t do any of those things. He was called a glutton and a drunkard. He hung out with tax collectors and sinner. He talked to sinful women and stood up for at least one adulterous woman.
He knows His place as a Son, as a free man not a slave. He is loved by the Father and Jesus is comfortable and confident of His Father’s love.
Recall, while on the earth He chose to eat with the sinners. In today’s terms, you might think of those who do not follow the rules you do. Think about the places you would dare not go because “I am a Christian, I don’t go to those places.” Those are the places Jesus went to. He brought His Light into the darkness.
He loved. No, it most certainly was not always easy. Many times He upset the apple cart of rules and laws. This was not a comfortable life to live. The comfort came only from knowing the love of His heavenly Father.
19 [e]Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you [f]always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
