I was just scrolling through my WordPress Reader when I saw on the blog “A Momma’s View” that she is doing a Monday (or in this case, Tuesday!) “Tell me something good” post. I thought it would be fun. And I didn’t have anything else to write about yet, so why not??!!
Tell me something good..
It’s finally warm here in Wisconsin!! Last week it was minus temps. This week its almost 50!! Yesterday was absolutely beautiful and I let the girls out to forage for a while. (chickens I mean. Not my daughters…) They were all huddled over the manure pile digging out worms!! What a great winter treat for them. Tonight its raining so that last little bit of snow we had is going to be gone tomorrow. Looks like the temps will drop again on the weekend so maybe we will get some snow then too. Snow would be nice as its not much fun to have winter without some snow to play in.
The chickens are happy to be warm and so are the rabbits. I left the rabbit house door open the last few days to give them a nice breeze. They seem much happier too. We had been fighting with water bottles for the last few weeks so we all are relieved that we have a bit of a break. I know it will be back again soon enough. Now, though, we figured out that if we give them produce it helps them to get some of their water intake at the same time. I had no idea that would help, but it really does seem to. They love it and it helps so produce they get.
Other than that…….
I have been taking classes through svslearning.com. SVS stands for Society of Visual Storytelling. Its a great site where you can pay a monthly fee and access literally hundreds of classes! I am currently working on improving my skills in art. I have always loved to draw and write but a few years of raising kids and drawing basic things quickly for them to color has sort of dulled my skills. Not that I had many to begin with, I admit. The class I am working through this week is one about using the Procreate app that I have on my iPad. I get sort of frustrated because his drawings are so amazing but I have to realize that he has been doing this for 26 years and teaching others as well. I feel like I am a preschooler drawing my little people with stick arms and huge eyes compared to the work I have seen in the classes. My style is not their style I guess and I have also not spent all my waking hours drawing and painting like many of them have. The other thing is that digital drawing and painting is a whole different ballgame entirely. I need to just practice and practice some more.
Like writing. Like every skill we want to try.
It takes some practice. And sometimes a teacher is needed.
Which brings me to the other thing I am going to do this winter. The Master Gardener class. In my community, there is a Master Gardener program. You take a few classes, pass a test, spend some time volunteering in the community, then you can become a Master Gardener. I am looking forward to it and had been thinking about doing it for some time now. Yesterday I actually sent in my registration and fee. I am really excited about it!! I have so many ideas I want to try. I am hoping this class will give me some guidance and direction.
I have been feeling better too, which helps things quite a bit! Of course, it is winter and I have big plans for the year. By March or April, hopefully I will have toned it down a little so its more manageable. (Which is another reason why my notebook of goals and plans comes in handy!!) Tomorrow I will go talk to my Naturopath. My hope is that she gives me some nutrition advice to get my body back in order. I was more active yesterday, which was awesome. Unfortunately, today, I had to take a nap again. Something I haven’t done in a week or more. Oh well.. Baby steps I guess.
Thanks for taking the time to read about something good here on my blog! Go check out some of the other good things on “A Momma’s View“.
